The Fog of Memory

As I was making my usual late-night preparations for a trip -- I'm headed to the Bay Area for a Bad Subjects reading at City Lights (Wednesday 9/15, 7pm) -- I felt the need to wash away the stress of the past week and a half by staring at photos in my screen saver album.

This one, taken in the spring of 2001, has always been a favorite:

There's a whole series of Kim and Skylar playing chase in front -- back, technically -- of the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. But this one captures the experience best because it gives you the whole story and smiles too.

Let me wax melancholy as I ready for my departure. I'll miss them, though the missing makes me love them even harder.
