Sensation of the Day

As I was walking from the soon-to-close Fry's near our house to the car just now, I caught the distinct scent of grocery-store chicken wafting on the cool morning air. But it wasn't a disgusting experience, just a neutral one.

Darkness on the Edge of Latency

Skylar loves Star Wars. But she's sad that the Death Star has to get blown up. "I like the Death Star." Now it's on to Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, formerly known as the second film in the Star Wars trilogy.

Death of a Star

I don't suppose it's particularly surprising that Susan Sontag has died at 71. Still, I'm always sad when a source of light dies. I feel about Sontag the way I feel about Jacques Derrida. I taught them. I recognized their importance. But I regard neither as one of "my" thinkers. I may have more to say later. For now, though, let me noted that I was surprised that Sontag spent some of her youth here in Tucson.
