Do you know Mark Morford? He's not famous yet, but he should be. His columns for the San Francisco Chronicle's internet site, the delightfully 1996-looking SFGate, have been one of the brightest spots in the post-election darkness to which all people who aren't idiots, assholes, or brain-washed robots have been thrust. You can sign up to get notified by them by e-mail, as I so happily was this morning. Today's isn't his best, but it's still pretty darn good. The subject? SUVs. My subject header? A line from Morford's column. Take a look at his archives too. The quotes from fans and foes are a riot.

I just went to Google News to catch-up on the headlines before we head to our night out and noticed that the lead link for the story of the Bush memo authorizing torture came, not from the San Francisco Chronicle, or Reuters, or some other standard source but the People's Weekly World. Can you believe it? The leveling effect of the Google News format, in which stories from the margins look as important as stories from the mainline, is truly remarkable.
