I know a number of you read De File regularly but do not have Live Journal accounts. That's fine, since my policy is to make all entries public. But it does mean that when you comment on an entry it sometimes takes quite a while for me to "unscreen" your comment and make it visible. If you'd like to avoid that delay and also learn when someone responds to your comment -- a helpful feature -- you can set up your own Live Journal account to use expressly for commenting on other people's journals. Some of my friends who have blogs elsewhere, like [livejournal.com profile] masoo,[livejournal.com profile] jsterne, and [livejournal.com profile] fredoluv, have done that, as well as friends who don't, such as [livejournal.com profile] marcegoodman. Also, it would make my life a teeny bit easier. No one needs to know who you are either. And if you only want the LJers whose entries you comment on to know, you can just send them a private e-mail with the information. Anyway, here's where you make your Live Journal account. It takes five minutes. This public service announcement is now complete.
Tonight I finally extracted the yellowed, cracked, intractable anti-static mat from my home office and moved a newer one into the place it had occupied. I've been meaning to do this for a year and a half, since the old mat stopped making it easier for the wheels on my desk chair to roll. But moving it required lifting the computer desk, removing all the books from a large bookshelf, vacuuming underneath everything -- suffice it to say that it wasn't a task I was looking forward to. Now that it's done, though, I'm suffused with waves of self-adoration. Couple that with the thrill of having now organized three file drawers at my U of A office in the past two weeks and I'm feeling like someone who is either a go-getter or has succumbed to the lure of crank. Next on my list: cleaning up the various hard drives in the house. I'm shooting for 2008.
