The party for conference-goers tonight reminded me a great deal of the sort I attended regularly as an undergraduate. There were super-size bottles of liquor -- one of the corporation-affiliated people at the conference apparently donated $1000 in alcohol -- and most of the food was the salty sort you pull out of a bag. The waves of nostalgia I experienced were tempered, however, by my extreme claustrophobia. I kept having to go outside to stand in the light rain. That would have been fine, but for the fact that I had failed to wear my coat. A silk shirt doesn't really cut it on an April night in the Pacific Northwest.
