I went for a job this morning and then pruned the mesquites and other flora for over an hour. Not once did the sun come out from behind the clouds, though it came close enough to keep things bright. I could live year-round in this sort of weather. Maybe I should consider moving to Florida. Maybe I should have my head examined.

It's the middle of the day. It's not raining here. But the temperature is still in the low 80s. Down in central Tucson, where the storms have begun to approach, it's actually in the 70s. I realize this may not seem a big deal to those of you who live far from this desert. To us, though, it feels like a miracle, one that we almost stop believing in every year in June and then renew our commitment to in July.

I just walked in the house carrying a large box of organic red raspberries and a bunch of fresh tape flags. I think I'll mix myself a reading "cocktail" of Sebald, De Certeau and Wittgenstein. I couldn't be happier.
