The National League pennant race has come down to the final game of the season. But unless you're in the local television market of one of the contenders or subscribe to one of those special packages, you're not going to see the games because it's Sunday, the day when professional football rules the airwaves. While not as annoying as having New Year's Day sports pre-empted by the Mummer's Parade, that scourge of my youthful viewing, it's still pretty frustrating. Somehow "watching" on the computer doesn't cut it. Oh, and I'm pulling for the Phillies, despite the fact that I haven't forgiven them for leaving the unfriendly but nostalgia-drenched confines of The Vet. If only Richie Ashburn were still around to wish me a Butterscotch Krimpet.
