Today's news of the 2008 Presidential campaign highlights further the crisis in the American two-party system. Another "money bomb" for Ron Paul, even more successful than the last one, indicated that his single-digit polling in places like Iowa and New Hampshire may be a trick of the darkness. And Joe Liberman endorsed John McCain for President, in an effort, he says, to put unity over partisanship. Whether the trend these stories suggest will lead to a true multi-parti system or a government that is even more of a de facto one-party state, however, is hard to say. Perhaps my father is right when he suggests, with a wink, that we're in for four more years of George W. Bush. A state of emergency demands stable leadership, after all. . .

I know I'm biased, but I swear that, if you want to read news items that are both dark and strange, you should pay attention to what comes out of my former place of residence. Sometimes it's a methamphetamine thing, sometimes it's a hip-hop thing, sometimes it's a Zodiac Killer thing and sometimes it's just because.
