When I was writing my IAS film notes for Kontroll yesterday, I kept thinking that there was another movie that was insinuating itself into my mind for comparisons. But I couldn't pin it down. And then I realized. It was last week's IAS film, King Kong, for which my partner wrote the film notes. Eating my bacon and eggs a few minutes ago, I suddenly found myself transported into that scene from The Player: Kontroll = Wings of Desire + King Kong.
