We will fight the Italians in Europe rather than face them here at home. We will find them and snuff them out of their holes. This is a war against terra, Bertsch. Soon, it will be time for all of us to congregate at a local venue. I need to talk sports with someone.
What a joke. Would've liked to have seen a late sub (Johnson) to run at Italy's flat-footed defense, but I'll settle for the agony of waiting until 5:55 a.m. Thursday to see if we can actually pull off one of the biggest comebacks in World Cup history. Still haven't beaten a European team on their soil ...
The disallowed goal was one of the only calls the ref got right. I thought the normally atrocious color commentator for the broadcast was pretty objective.
Yeah, they had one left. If anything, he could've run down some of Keller's long clearances in the final 10 minutes. I give great credit to McBride, but he appeared to have literally left his legs on the field. Oh well, let's just hope we can come out stronger against Ghana.
Why? I've never seen a red card given out for something like that at the World Cup before. Yellow makes sense. But not red. Since you're better informed, though, maybe you can tell me what I'm missing.
I see a player coming in, studs up, and sticking those studs in the guy's ankle. Some are arguing that he was going for the ball, but if he gets the guy's leg, his intentions are irrelevant. Some are arguing that the Italian made a meal of acting like he'd been crippled for life, and they're right, but the ref was right there on top of the play and saw Mastroeni come in, feet flying. But again, I'm biased ... I'd rather see too many red cards for that kind of play than not enough. The most entertaining players on a soccer field are the creative ones, the most dreary (if necessary) players are the thug defenders. All else being equal, I'd prefer to be entertained.
