Until they started protecting their lead, the French played beautiful offensive football. The goal was perfection. And Zidane looked ten years younger. Wow!
How beautiful this game was compared to how ugly the first game was! This is what soccer's supposed to look like--I couldn't believe how well the French played or how masterful ZZ looked.
As for Rooney, I don't believe the stamp deserved a red card -- I'm not sure it was intentional. And Ronaldo is a diving jerk.
The first game had its moments, but not until after Beckham left. Most of them came in overtime. I thought England played better than Portugal. As for Rooney, I'm not sure about the stamp, but I don't think he was carded until the push, which was deliberate. At any rate, he should have known better than to get that riled up in front of the ref.
I wish I'd taped the French game. Zidane and Ribery were astonishing in their fluid ball control. And Henry finally looked like the Henry everyone was expecting. I just remembered, though, that France looked almost that good in the minutes prior to their goal against South Korea, like they were moving at twice the speed of their opponents, but then slacked off horribly after Henry's goal. Maybe they were pacing themselves.
