The Problem of Reagan

Before our current leader, no one inspired more loathing in me than Ronald Reagan. But there seems to be something inhumane about regarding the impending demise of a sad, old man as a cause for something other than mourning. So I pose my loyal readers a question:

How should haters of Reagan-as-Governor and Reagan-as-President mark his passing, when it comes?

By stomping on his figurative grave.

I've been through this one before, since Nixon is to Steven as Reagan is to Charlie. You don't have to shed a single tear for the fucker ... it would be inhumane to treat Reagan as anything other than a doddering prick who ruined the lives of many.

Reagan and Nixon

He-he. . . I was hoping you'd say that.

I think it's interesting that you have more animus against Nixon, since Reagan was the not-yet-infirm asshole Governor during your formative years.

Charlie, you convinced me some time ago, when I was visiting you in Arizona, that Reagan's benign surface disguised a man who did more harm to our country than Nixon. Having said that, it's no contest for me ... until Bush Jr. came along, I never hated a president as much as I hated Nixon.

When I read the little obit, I just saw shit to make fun of and point out as, "see, he's an evil asshole."

But I held back, trying to eek out the most positive thing I could, which is to say, "at least his having alzheimers might have kept Bush from banning stem-cell research." You know, Bush thinks he's a God and all, so there's always that.

I checked out your "real" site/blog. Pretty cool. The name Ben Litton rings a bell too. Why?

my better half thinks that I should write an editorial about him. I remember when he was diagnosed wishing him a long and healthy life ....

I wish the devotees hadn't marked his passing with street closures and 5 or 6 police and news helicopters circling the chapel 5 blocks from my apartment for god knows how long.

There was this crazy moment in the afternoon when my roommate and I turned the TV on to figure out what the F was going on with all the helicopter's circling like airborn sharks. The coverage of this "news" went on and on. Here we see the corner of a casket, here we see a mob of loons trying to peek at the corner of a casket, here we see an old woman walking dressed like a flag. Craziest part was noisy helicoptered news footage of a helicopter circling a street corner I could have pointed at from the roof of my bedroom--trees in the way from my window but the noise still coming in. I felt quite interpolated, quite post-modern.

Welcome home.
