Tonight we met Laurie and Megan and their respective children Travis and Kaylee at the Reid Park Zoo for the annual festival of lights. This event is second only to the walk through Winterhaven on our list of "classic" holiday traditions in Tucson. Every year we have a great time. And every year I eat way too much kettle corn. This time, though, my need to produce a photographic record of the excess tempered my consumption. Highlights included passing around the trippy 3-D glasses we purchased that made all lights look like snowflakes, seeing Skylar's first pre-school teacher's aide Tasha, and finding that the polar bear was both awake and attracted to Kim's voice. Aesthetically speaking, the ball of light was hard to beat:

"She's got the whole world, in her hands." Either that or a fusion reaction a la Spider Man 2.

Isn't there a scene in La Jetée where everyone is wearing that sort of glasses? I should know the answer to that one, but I only saw the movie once, back in 1997, at L.A.'s Temporary Contemporary, under the influence of Gram Parsons's Nudie suit. All I remember clearly is fearing the Middle-American families surrounding us on the nubbily carpeted risers.

I don't think it's everyone that wears the glasses, just the dude during the experiment. There's a bad copy of "La Jetee" at Casa if you want to see it again.

That's why it's good to watch films sober, I suppose. I wonder if it's on DVD?

Hope you're feeling better, Sean.

I think you can buy it on DVD. It's part of a collection of Chris Marker's films. It seems to be sold out:
