Well, my entry last night was pretty accurate about my condition except that the adjectives were switched. It turns out that I was getting appreciably better and dramatically worse. My throat, inspected for a sixth time today, is looking much less swollen. But whatever I came down with last night is astonishingly intense. This afternoon, as I lay on the sofa, I was literally unable to stretch my legs out because of the cramping. I don't think I moved more than an inch for hours. When Kim and Skylar arrived home, however, I saw some improvement. I took Tylenol. Kim cooled my head with wet cloths. And I watched some college basketball while the ladies sewed and stuffed heart-shaped pillows for Valentine's Day. Still, if the way I'm feeling at this moment is a huge improvement, I shudder to think how high my fever was at 4pm. For those keeping score, I've started another course of antibiotics, this time something in the Cipro family only stronger. That will be handy if I end up being diagnosed with anthrax. Also, I'm being tested for Valley Fever, which I think I was also tested for in November, 2000 at my previous physician, but for which there is no notation on my chart. Time to go lie down some more. Thanks to everyone who left nice comments on Kim's worried blog entry.

It's no consolation, I've only been suffering for 3 days, but i feel your pain. Really. Most every symptom.

It sucks BAD.

Times like this when you just wanna fast forward to them healthy parts when you could worry about other things.

*sigh*

Send out Kim when you're done with her, which I hope is soon. I need a cool washcloth on my forehead. ;)

I'm sorry. I recommend chicken broth with lots of garlic, ginger and some chili peppers. Throw in tofu if you like. Very restorative.

I'm getting sick too. Oh God. I hope I don't get what you have. On a depresing note, two grad students who weren't required and NO faculty came to Lynda's Kincaid talk today.

Typical. Someone neeeds to get the word out. Being a grad student means going to things and going out. You have to have both.

This is a bad thing, so I hope you don't get it. I've only had a fever like that 3 times in my life.

What's irritating is that people just don't go, whether they know or not. I always think that going to talks really help me get my intellectual juices going... Oh well. Lame.

Hope you feel better. I had that plague and the IV this summer, but right now my homeopathic medicine is keeping it in stasis. Let's hope.

Never did know what it was. Some sort of insane throat infection. It involved IVs and strange vulnerability in a public place (the health center) by myself. A weird time to be alone.

After such an ordeal, I certainly hope the recovery track now is speedy. Best wishes.

Yeah, it sucks. I feel so much better right now, but still feel dreadful. You hang in there too! We loved the cat pictures.

Fruit smoothies, Charlie. Soothing for the throat and they pack a lot of vitamins.

Hope you feel better soon.

Charlie, I hope you don't see this until you are well ... get away from the computer! Watch more college hoops, anything ... even I know at some point ya gotta quit blogging until you're healthy! You shouldn't be reading our comments!

I actually find it kind of relaxing. I have a terrible headache etc., but this takes my mind off it.

Back to the sofa. . .

It's been so long since I got headaches, but when I did, I couldn't stare at the screen. If this makes you feel better, keep reading and we'll keep posting!

I watched college ball for the first time since my first year of college last night. But I was feeling fine. I wonder if you got this thing from sharing that straw with me at the Grill in December....

Hard to believe that it could have been that. But that's when I started to get the sore throat. All I can say is that, if you had then what I have now, you must be made of very strong stuff indeed to have survived it so well. What a mess. Now my throat's getting sore again.

Blind at O'Hare International

I understand the frustration and anxiety of not knowing what is happening to one's body. Flying home for break, I arrived at O'Hare with an indescribable pain attacking my neck and head. I couldn't see. Turned out I had shingles. Best of luck with the recuperation!
