Yes, the ideal speech situation is an ideal. But so is the less-than-ideal speech situation. Why not aspire to the former instead of resigning oneself to the latter? Someone better get the Kryptonite, because I finally see the radical undergarments under Jürgen Habermas's reformist pantsuit. Because if we idealize the world we already have, the best we can hope for is more of the same.
