You know those loose-weave cotton blankets? In addition to having the perfect construction to keep me sufficiently cool and sufficiently warm through the fluctuations in body temperature of a summer night -- I've always wanted to write, "of a summer night," being a fan of the genitive -- they also possess an astonishing capacity to absorb liquids. To hell with the "quicker picker-upper": one king-size blanket can outdo dozens of rolls. And you can wring it out and get a lot of mileage on the second or third pass too. I do so love a loose-weave cotton blanket, particularly when they come in ecru or powder blue.
