I woke up on the sofa at 4am, the reading lamp blaring in my face. My first thought was, "I remember reaching up to turn the lamp off." Apparently, I went under before my finger and thumb had twisted the knob. This was the second night in a row in which this happened. On both occasions I worried that I might have been sunburned by the lamp. Since it's not halogen, though, that seems pretty unlikely. When I'm feeling like this I'll spend an hour rummaging through my shelves for just the right book, but then be too tired to read more than a few sentences. I'm always at least half-tired these days. Even the thought of positioning myself to watch television inspires overwhelming lethargy. Sometimes I'll sit here at the computer clicking links I've already visited more than once because I feel the need to stay awake and can't deal with new content. Well, it's approaching my reading hour. Maybe I can make it three nights in a row when I open my eyes to the blare of the artificial sun.
