Back To Basics

Today I saw a car with one of those bumper stickers enjoining us to, "Keep the Christ in Christmas." I was inspired to come up with a counterpart: "Keep the Bunny in Easter." It should look smashing next to the "W 2008" numbers I'm having made up.

Der Überbertsch

Today is my father's birthday. Despite mild mellowing, his steely blue gaze continues to burn fiercely. Especially when it's time for something to happen, the happening of which has been delayed. Like lunch, for instance, the wait for which is captured in this shot I took at the Smithsonian last summer:

While it's not always easy to be on the receiving end of this look, I am ever so happy to have it in my life. He's a good man, my dad, and a shining beacon of Bertschness to boot. "Herzlichen Glückwünsch!"
