If Cal had lost to the Wildcats, I wouldn't be stressed out by this evening's ASU game. But now I'm in the throes of a potent speedball in which particles of dread are suspended in the hope they turn sour. Why do I feel like my seeing Jeff Pendergraph and James Harden laughing together outside of Cupz in September was a foretelling of the Pac 10 race?

The Cal men played great today, beating a ranked Arizona State University team that crushed Stanford on Friday by thirty points. The Cal women, who have been ranked all season, had a much harder time playing the Sun Devils on the road, but prevailed in a one-point squeaker. The only down side is that the Wildcat men are playing so badly at Stanford tonight that they are diminishing the value of the Bears' victory against them on Friday. I was rooting for Arizona, primarily because I want that win to count for something. But, boy, maybe it is time to stop defending Chase Budinger, who plays like he's on Valium most of the time.
