You were in Berkeley earlier today? You didn't call; you didn't write?
I just came back from my weekly trip to the farmers' market in V-jo. I noticed that now most of the stores on Georgia Street are vacant. Not that the antique and thrift stores were ever thriving, but at least there was some economic activity. Now, with only about 15% occupancy: there is almost nothing.
No, no. That photo, at least the Berkeley layer -- it's an old-fashioned double exposure from the pre-Photoshop era -- is from the third saturday in May, 1989. The other layer is from about a month later. I was playing around with the "current location" tag for a bit, that's all. For better or worse, I'm in Tucson. And I'll be sure to write before I next come to the Bay Area.
Yes, Georgia Street had a few windows of opportunity for upswing when we were there, most recently during the Dot Com boom. But the long-term trend is a steep slope leading to a pile of rubble.
